This week, we are featuring Indie Hops in Oregon!

Indie Hops is the mastermind behind Strata, Lorien, Audacia, Meridian, and more! Indie Hops focuses on experimental hop breeding to create truly unique hops unlike anything else on the market.

In addition to bringing big flavor and aroma to the market, they also work closely with select growers to ensure their hops have a sustainable path to market and consistent supply.

INDIE HOPS BIO

Like many craft breweries around the world, Indie Hops was born over a pint of beer and shared passion between friends. In 2008, Indie Hops co-founders Jim Solberg and Roger Worthington found themselves catching up over a pint of beer at their local craft brewery in Portland, Oregon. The craft landscape was much quieter than it is today. Craft was still just getting started in many parts of the country, and the hop industry didn’t give much thought to the needs of craft brewers.

Jim and Roger felt that would change; they saw a bright future in craft and felt that more and more communities would support local breweries that would need a hop supply more tailored to their needs. They had the experience and resources to give it a go. So in 2009, they embarked on a journey to be hop suppliers to craft breweries — with the hopes that someday in the distant future, they'd have their own interesting varieties to offer… just clank your pints together and all your dreams will come true, right?

Seventeen years later, Indie Hops has become a global hop supplier; and has also launched five unique Indie Hops varieties commercially: Strata®️, Lórien®️, Luminosa®️, Meridian®️ and Audacia®️. Indie’s flagship variety Strata has quickly risen to prominence because of its depth of character that tantalizes hoppy beer lovers, and due to growing demand is now available in two cryogenic lupulin pellets (CGX™️ and Cryo®️), as well as cold-side flowable hop oil Strata®️ HyperBoost®️. Brewers worldwide trust Indie’s unique varieties to modernize, brighten and diversify their beer lineup. In addition, Indie Hops also offers classic hop varieties that thrive in Oregon terroir such as Chinook, Crystal, Sterling and Mt. Hood.

Thoughtfully crafted and selected hops to meet your brewing needs, Indie Hops works closely with nine hop farms in Oregon to ensure optimal pick windows for each variety they supply. In addition, the hops are pelletized at the Indie Hops pellet mill — the first hop pellet mill built in Oregon and located just a stone’s throw from the farms where the hops are grown. Every aspect of the Indie Hops pellet mill is engineered to lock just-harvested freshness into the pellets. This is achieved this by keeping throughput time from bale breaker to sealed package short, while also maintaining a low pelletization temperature — ensuring high fidelity flavor and aroma.
